Noteworthy: Today Coach Kris had the opportunity to present Carol Schemanske with the award for Long Distance Swimmer of the Year at the 2017 Michigan Master’s Awards Banquet. Kris wrote this about Carol’s amazing accomplishments:
Tonight at the 2017 Michigan Master’s Awards Banquet our own Carol Schemanske received the Long Distance Swimmer of the Year Award. Carol came to us as an open water swimmer to work on her technique and took off from there. Her goal of swimming 250 miles a year became 500 miles a year and then 750 miles a year and this year she is already at 951 miles. She is 10th overall in the country and 1st in her age group. She is the first in at practice and the last to leave the pool. She is usually the first one in the lake each spring and the last one out each fall! This year she completed her first triathlon and her first open water ocean swim. She recruits new swimmers for us, is always eager to learn, asks questions about technique, and is always working to improve. She is an inspiration to all of us!
Congratulations Carol, you embody what it means to be a member of MAC!

Milford Monsters: Sign up on the Michigan Masters website or deck enter on the morning of the meet if you’re not sure! This meet would be a fantastic opportunity to get your feet wet (pun intended). Relays are included in this meet as well as short events including a 25 meter freestyle – Milford Monster Madness! If you don’t have a fall meet on your schedule, gain some competitive experience, or just have some fun with your teammates, this is your meet! Our pool, our meet, let’s bring the MAC Attack! See attached entry form and get signed up!
From the Coaches:
Jim: Congratulations to the continuous loyalty award recipients:
Kris: Monday Distance: Just a reminder that practice starts promptly at 9:30am. It’s been crowded on Mondays and the workouts get moving right on time so if you come late, I will do my best to get you in to the correct lane, but you may need to get warmed up on your own in Lane 1 or even the Diving well until a break in the set. We will continue working on endurance and our first long swim is coming up soon!
Wednesday Drill: Warm-up will be a review of Breaststroke from last week and this week’s drill will be Backstroke including turns as requested. Come see us and bring your requests!
Maria: Reminder there is no Saturday practice on this Saturday (October 21) or the following Saturday (October 28). However, we will see you on October 28 at the pool anyway for our meet!
Dianne: We have again had some fantastic practices this week! We have continued to work on fly by laying the foundation of body undulation while still working to perfect our freestyle strokes. Friday swimmers were awesome and performed incredibly well throughout a tough workout. We will continue this week to work on freestyle and butterfly, adding and introducing new techniques.
On a Personal Note: Congrats to all who competed this weekend in races. I know that we had several that competed in the Detroit Marathon and some teammates at Ironman Louisville. I’d love to know how you did! Send me an email and let me know about your race!
Communication: If you have questions for any of the coaches don’t hesitate to ask! Here’s a quick list of emails to make that a bit easier!
