Noteworthy: Nationals starts Thursday! Practices will be geared toward our Nationals swimmers tapers this week so may be shorter than normal. With all of our MAC coach’s swimming/coaching at Nationals, we have done our best to staff all of our workouts however Saturday’s workout was the only one we can’t staff. As such, Saturday’s workout will still be offered but it will be a posted workout. To make it easy on all of you Maria wrote the workout early and it will be added to this email. Please refer to the Personal Note section for that workout!
National’s swimmers! Skip is going to be stopping by the pool tomorrow, Monday May 7, in order to hand out Team Michigan gear. He is hoping to lighten his load that he has to take down to Indy. He has forwarded me a list of swimmers from MAC still needing their Michigan attire. If you can make it to practice tomorrow morning to get your gear, here is the list:
Tom Welsh
Carol Schemanske
Jacquline Thorpe
Maria Veen
April Maunu
Rita Gelman
Ann Franas
Kathy Burkhart

Upcoming Events:

National Meet: Nationals is here! Remember that another official update will be posted tomorrow, Monday, May 7 so save this e-mail to follow the link (below) and read to get this latest information before we all head to Indy!

https://www.usms.org/events/national-championships/pool-national-championships/2018-nationwide-usms-spring-national-championship/2018-spring-nationals-updates

IMPORTANT INFO #1: The meet now starts at 7:30am every day! Warm up is 6:00-7:20am in the competition pool after that the warm-up pools will be available from 7:20am until the conclusion of the last event. There is also a 30 minute warm-up scheduled in the competition pool each morning around 9:30. The approximate timeline for the meet is posted here:

2018 Nationwide USMS Spring Nationals Championship Timeline

IMPORTANT INFO #2: You must check in on deck for all events longer than 200 by 7am or 9am depending on event so check the Meet Information page for deadlines! https://www.usms.org/content/scnats18meetinfo

IMPORTANT INFO #3: They will be doing Flyover Starts! For all who do not know, a “flyover” is simply starting the next heat while the previously finished heat is still in the water. Which means that when you finish your race you will need to stay put until the next heat is started and then you can get out or move to a ladder to exit the pool. If you are in the next heat you will need to make sure that you are listening and be prepared to get on the blocks and be prepared to take your mark while swimmers are finishing their race. That means caps on, goggles adjusted, parkas removed well before you normally would do so!

#IMPORTANT INFO #4 Two pools running simultaneous events – it will be very important to make sure you are paying attention to get to the blocks on time!

A couple of other miscellaneous things:

They do not want any folding chairs on deck so don’t bring yours!

Parking passes were mailed out last week so contact them if you didn’t receive yours in the mail

Maria and Kris will be heading down Wednesday afternoon and will be there for the 1000 on Thursday (they will also be serving as Volunteer coaches for the whole meet bright and early at 6am warm-up with official USMS shirts on deck!) Dianne will be arriving Thursday evening (and also serving as a Volunteer deck coach on Sunday bright and early at 6am), Melissa comes in Friday, and Jim on Saturday. We will send out our (Team MICH) deck spot over Remind and email so you’ll know where to head once you get on the pool deck.

IUPUI is a cold pool, make sure that you are bringing enough towels and sweats and maybe even your parka so you can stay warm between events. On that note, don’t forget all of your Team Michigan SWAG so we can support and represent our team! Lot’s of red this weekend! Skip is coming by the pool in the morning in an effort to hand out Team MICH gear so he doesn’t have to lug it all to Indy. Refer to the Noteworthy section for a list of swimmers Skip is looking for tomorrow.

Bring some spending money because the word on the street is that the vendors at Nationals are fantastic!

Print out this Google doc so we can ALL stay connected at the meet!
