Swimmer of the Week:

Jack Colliton

Swimming is the only form of exercise I’ve ever enjoyed. I swam competitively in High School, did a couple of intramural meets in college but didn’t do much swimming after that.

I had read about MAC in the Huron Valley Family Resource Magazine so when I retired in 2013, I thought I’d check it out. My understanding was that MAC was a simple workout group, where you worked at your own pace, with swimmers of equal ability. I had no idea there were competitions or coaches who would push you until you thought your lungs might explode or your arms felt like Jell-O!

I initially found workouts to be a little too intense so for the first 6 months I lied about my times to keep the coaches from moving me up to a faster lane. It took me awhile to find my groove but getting into shape after 40 plus years of sitting behind a desk felt great. Life gets in the way, excuse me, “retirement” gets in the way and I don’t always get in as many workouts as I’d like but any time spent in the pool is a gift as far as I’m concerned.

MAC has been a blast. I’ve learned a lot about swimming technique (things have changed since the 60’s).  I love the friends I’ve made and the people I’ve met. I really can’t say enough about MAC coaches. Their knowledge, dedication and patience are outstanding. If you’ve ever been to a practice with me and Bill Palmer you know we take great pleasure in giving Dianne and Kris a hard time. The fact that they put up with us is amazing! After 6 years of swimming with MAC I’m also impressed that our coaching staff is continually working to improve our workouts, communications, web page and maintain a high level of enthusiasm.

Get in shape, make new friends, meet new people, harass a coach, who could ask for more? See you in the pool….

MAC Swimmers are the greatest advertisements of all! We love how you share your stories on social media, with friends, etc. We would like to share your stories as well. Each week we will highlight a MAC Swimmer so we can learn more about the team.

During This Holiday Season…

MAC is giving back with donations of food and/or money to the Swoops emergency food pantry, through Eastern Michigan University.

You may drop items in the “MAC Gives Back” box at the pool. To Donate Cash, Visit the MAC website:  www.MilfordAthleticclub.org/shop We will collect money, and send one check from the MAC team after December 8th.
