News:

1. Milford Monster meters meet is this Sunday 10/27. Get signed up, and support our fall home meet. The LHS girls team will be there to help with timing, counting, and they’re bringing the meet snacks. Register at MichiganMasters.com

Many of you have experienced the MAC family of support over the years. We want to spread that out and give back to others. We would like to get MAC together and do one service project every Fall and one every Spring in our local community. Some of you attend churches, temples, or are active in other groups like the Lions Club or Chamber of Commerce that help families or individuals in need. Others may just know someone through friends that could use a little extra help. If you have an idea or know someone please e-mail Kris at macswimgoblue@gmail.com.

MAC was asked to be a host team for 2020 World Swim Day!  Come to MAC practice Saturday, Oct. 26th, and get a FREE World Swim Day Cap!  To participate, you need to sign up for FREE at:  www.worldswimday.org. Also by signing up you will be eligible to win prizes from various sponsors, and can purchase a World Swim Day Gold Medal and/or T-Shirt.  Since the MAC meet is the following day (Sunday 10/27), we will offer 2 workout options on Saturday:
1. A pre-meet workout for anyone swimming in the meet the next day, or
2. A regular MAC Saturday workout.
We’d like to get a team photo and video with everyone wearing their World Swim Day Caps.

Swimmer of the Week:

Rita Gelman

You want me to write about my swimming background? I am the oldest and slowest person in the pool!  But swimming with MAC has been a life changing experience for me. I had no formal swimming lessons as a child and never thought that I would go to swimming meets, not to mention national competitions. I didn’t even know what a “cut off” was to qualify for nationals. Former MAC coach Suzanne Grebe told me ”she would help me “ if I came to her pool workout in Milford. She did; then I found out that I had stenosis of the aortic valve. Coach Kris Goodrich, a graduate of their UM Kinesiology, worked with my cardiologist for permission and monitors and customizes the workouts for me.  I can’t say enough good for all the coaches who help everyone providing interesting and varied workouts with drills, not just speed swimming. The team is a force to be reckoned with. We are winners with a team spirit. I have swim friends and carpool companionship. People ask me why I have to go to Milford to swim. I can only answer that it is unique and supportive. I learn something new almost everyday. It is an ongoing kind of joke to me to be high point winner when the competition is limited. But then I remember that there are those “cut off” times and I do show up.

In my lifetime, I have taught little kids to swim, adults with arthritis, and seniors in a therapeutic pool. They didn’t treat me differently during Life Saving tests to get the brick from the bottom of the pool.

I feel fortunate to be in relatively good mental and physical health. I have a wonderful family with 4 married children and 10 grandchildren ages 13-27 who unfortunately all live out of town. I was married for almost 62 years before my husband died last year. I  keep very busy and will be in an art show at The Turner Resource Center through January.
