From the Coaches:
Maria: The coached open water workouts start tomorrow! They will be TUESDAY nights.
Tuesday, June 20, we will meet at Kent Beach (not the normal Pond). We want to take advantage of the T-Rex swim course being up, so you can get some long swims around the buoys. We will start with warm up & drills, then you will have a chance to swim the course, as many times as you’d like.
Also, if you want help with your Transitions, bring your bike and gear. You can set it up and practice. And get pointers!
The normal workouts will take place at Spring Mill Pond, excluding the nights before T-Rex. Please get there promptly at 6:15 and be ready to swim by 6:30. We will start on time.
We also want to extend our informal after swim G2G at Champs in Brighton, so if you’d like to grab a beverage and recovery meal, some of us will be going there after, each week. Everyone is welcome.
Finally, don’t forget to bring: Safety buoys, drinks/hydration, fins/zoomers, and bright colored swim cap.
Melissa: Weekly swims at Trout are going great – we had 10 swimmers this past week and the water is a nice temperature. This week – Saturday, 6/24 – there is an open water swim meet at Island Lake, The Penguin Plunge. So practice will be cancelled. However, this meet offers a great opportunity to gain open water experience. There are several distances offered: 1K, 3K, and 5K! See the above event information for the registration link!
Jim: The MAC triathlon clinic was Saturday. Coach Maria and I presented a well-rounded balance of All Things Triathlon. The attendees all seemed to takeaway a lot of information. We plan on having more Triathlon clinics next year starting in the Winter/Early spring, and do a Series of Clinics. Each with a specific focus i.e. Training & Nutrition, Race Strategies, Transition/etc.

This week starts the new summer schedule, and Monday @ 6:30 PM at the MHS pool, will be the only PM coached pool practiced during the summer schedule. During the summer/open water season, it’s a good idea to swim in a pool, at least once a week, to keep your pool skills, and overall swim conditioning fresh.
Kris: Gone for summer season
Dianne: Walnut Creek practice this Sunday was much better attended with 7 swimmers! This is such a fantastic pool and a great chance to swim outdoors with a black line! If you want to continue that Friday race pace workout through the summer, come on Sunday mornings!

On a Personal Note: Great job to Ann Ward and Chris Smith after competing this weekend at the Munley Meet at MSU! The rain held off till just about the end of the meet only cancelling the 100 FR and 800/1500 FR.

Let the coaches know what you’re up to and how you do! We want to stay connected and informed over the summer. TRex this week at Island Lake, who’s going?
